Description: Simonds 1880 was the first bitter that The Kernel brewed, although in true Kernel fashion, it’s not a bog standard bitter, rather it’s closer to a Burton IPA or an ESB.
It’s brewed to an 1880 recipe from Simond’s Brewery from Reading, malted with Maris Otter and Amber Malt for a smooth body, and hopped with Goldings for a citrusy aroma and flavours of marmalade and a bitter black tea finish.
It’s become a huge favourite and has been rebrewed several times.
